Workshop held at Faculty of Engineering on Health and Safety at Workplace
A one day workshop on Health and Safety at Workplace was organized by the Faculty of Engineering for the Non-academic staff of the Faculty and selected staff members from other administrative units of the university.
The event was held on 28th November 2016 under the patronage of Prof. Leelananda Rajapaksha, Dean Faculty of Engineering. The Deputy Director Eng. Luxman Jansz (Deputy Commissioner of Laborer (Tech.) and Deputy Chief Factory Inspecting Engineer, Labour Department) served as the Resource Persons for the Workshop. More than 200 Non-Academic members, including representatives from the security department, took part in the workshop. Certificates of participation were issued to those who completed both the morning and afternoon sessions.
The main areas covered in the workshop included factories ordinance, general safety (electrical safety, mechanical – machine safety and chemical safety), safe and efficient operation of high-risk machinery, safety planning for organizations, identifying, evaluating and managing hazards and risks at the workplace. The program was a single step in the journey of making a safe environment in the university, for the staff and students.
