Visit of IEEE IAS World Organization President

Mr. David B. Durocher, the president of the IEEE Industry Applications Society and Dr. Peter Magyar, the chair of the Chapters and Membership Development Committee of IAS visited the IAS Chapter of IEEE Student Branch, University of Peradeniya on 12th December 2016. The event was held at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering with the participation of many student members.

The keynote speaker for the day, Mr. David B. Durocher, made an interesting presentation on power systems, giving an insight to the emerging technologies associated with it. There he discussed about the new trends in electrical power industry which is about to enter a transition towards more sustainable, reliable and clean solutions, thus increasing both system and strategic security.

Mr. Dulaj Godakumbura, the president of the IEEE IAS Student Chapter of University of Peradeniya presented the achievements of the society as a newly established student chapter and unveiled the plans for the coming year.

Following that, Dr. Peter Magyar took his opportunity to address the audience focusing mainly on the membership benefits of the IAS. He further highlighted the importance of being a student member of the society, emphasizing its role in making valuable professional connections with the industrial and commercial sectors.

The day’s agenda concluded with the presentation made by Mr. Yasitha Harshanath, the Student Branch Coordinator of IEEE Region 10 Student Activities Committee, based on the activities carried out by the young professionals in the Region 10, to collaboratively address the humanitarian and global development challenges.

The event was made a huge success under the guidance and supervision of Dr. Lilantha Samaranayake, advisor and the senior treasurer of the IEEE IAS Chapter of University of Peradeniya.
