Opening Ceremony of the New Building of Chemical & Process Engineering Department
A new building for the Department of Chemical & Process Engineering was declared open by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Prof. Upul B. Dissanayake, on 5th of January 2017. Prof. Leelananda Rajapaksha, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. C.S. Kalpage, Head of the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering and many other academic and non-academic staff members participated in the occasion.
The building construction initiated back in November 2008. But the proceedings got delayed due to many reasons. The constructions restarted in 2014and were concluded in the last December. Constructions were done by the State Engineering Corporation.
The new facility is a four-story building with ample space for academic activities. These includes;
- Two Pilot Plants
- Analytical Instrument Lab
- Analytical Chemical Engineering Lab
- Food Engineering Lab
- Biochemical Engineering Lab
- Energy Engineering Lab
- Computer Center
- Seminar room
- Conference room
- Student Project room
Along with these added facilities, this new space will enable more students to be accommodated in the department.
