Engonitez 2022: Unleashing the Thrill of Sports for Engineering Undergrads!
The Engonitez 2022 sports meet, which was organized by the sports subcommittee of the Engineering Students' Union to promote brotherhood through the essence of sport and align our brothers and sisters towards sports, bringing out their hidden talents, continued throughout a couple of weeks. The speciality is that it's been 12 years since such an event was last organized.
The opening ceremony was held magnificently at the University indoor gymnasium with the participation of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Academic staff members, members of the students' Union and the University sports Council on the 26th of October 2022. The President of the Sports Council presented the sports charter, and as a special event, the trophies were exhibited. The event began with volleyball, and nearly 16 sports were held successfully, including netball, basketball, elle, table tennis, chess, baseball, badminton, weightlifting, carrom, kabaddi, tennis, hockey, and rugby. The above events were held in both men's and women's categories. The sports meet concluded with a cricket tournament in which separate trophies were presented.
Each event was held according to the knockout method, and every position was assigned a score, and the total score of each team was calculated. The rules and regulations of the freshers’ meet were followed.
Not only the players of each batch but also all the brothers and sisters were abundantly seen to cheer their fellow mates. Accordingly, the E/16 batch held blue, the E/17 batch held grey, the E/18 batch held yellow, the E/19 batch held green, and the E/20 batch held purple flags and headbands to cheer their batchmates, respectively.
The overall winner of this sports meet held to develop the brotherhood with the participation of batches E/16, E/17, E/18, E/19, and E/20 that are currently studying in the Faculty was the E/16 batch and the E/17 batch became runners up while the E/19 batch became the second runners up.
To conclude the sports meet, the Engineering Students' Union organized the Faculty Night, and the trophies and certificates were presented during this event. The best male player award was presented to Osanda Galgoda of the E/16 batch, and the best female player award was presented to Nisansala Nilmini of the E/16 batch. Thus came to an end, the glamorous event Engonitez came with the hope of having an even more successful and elegant sports meet next year.
In conclusion, Engonitez was an excellent opportunity for students to come together and engage in friendly competition while relieving themselves from the academic pressure that comes with being engineering students. The event not only provided a chance for students to bond with each other but also showcased the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between academic and extracurricular activities. By participating in the sports meet, students could cultivate a sense of community and camaraderie and develop essential life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship. Overall, the Engineering faculty sports meet was a resounding success, and we hope to see more events like this in the future that foster a positive and supportive academic environment.
