Electrical and Electronic Engineering Research and Project Symposium (EEERaPS - 2016)

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (DEEE) of Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya organized the third consecutive Electrical and Electronic Engineering Research and Project Symposium (EEERaPS – 2016) at hotel Waters Edge, Battaramulla on September 5th, 2016.

The occasion was graced by the presence of Kabir Hashim, honourable Minister of Public Enterprise Development as the chief guest, Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Prof. Upul B. Dissanayake, Dean – Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, Prof. Leelananda Rajapakse, Defense Secretary, Mr. Karunasena Hettiarachchi and many other distinguished personalities.

eeeraps-2016-roboOver 50 undergraduate and postgraduate level projects from the field of Electrical and Electronic Engineering were demonstrated to school students, industrialists and academia from 01:00pm onwards. The inauguration session of the symposium was held at 05:00pm with two keynote speeches by Prof. Ravi Silva, University of Surrey, United Kingdom on ‘State-of-the-Art Research in Nano Electronics and Communications’ and the other by Prof. Janaka Ekanayake (Head of the Department of EEE, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya ) on ‘Enabling the Smart Grid’.

The DEEE has been the pioneer in producing the highest quality research at the national and international level, which is evident by the top-ranking researchers attached to the department and by the number of highly cited research publications during the last several years. The symposium focused on diverse research disciplines ranging from Communication Systems and Information Technology, Electrical Power and Renewable Energy, Robotics and Control Systems, High Voltage Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation, Electrical Machines to Bio-Medical Engineering and Nanotechnology. The participants were also exposed to locally developed novel and cutting edge solutions to relevant engineering issues while the undergraduates were granted the opportunity to understand and get exposure to industrial expectations.

EEERaPS 2016 was followed by the ‘EEES Night’ where the past and the present members of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Society (EEES) of Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya gathered for a pleasant get-together.
